How-to-Pass-a-Home-Inspection

Home Inspection Services in Raleigh, NC

My experience, knowledge, and expertise here at Porter Home Inspections will spare you headaches and money. Selecting the right home inspection services in Raleigh, NC, can make all the difference in your home-buying experience.

With so many options available, making your decision based solely on price could prove costly in the long run. A thorough evaluation of a home inspection company’s experience, credentials, and reputation is essential before entrusting them with what is likely the largest purchase of your life.

What to Consider Before Hiring a Professional Home Inspector

  • The length of time the inspector has held their license
  • The total number of inspections completed throughout their career
  • Their professional background, experience, and credentials
  • The availability of public or published reviews
  • Their rating with the Better Business Bureau
  • Any complaints filed with the licensure board or found online
  • Their willingness to dedicate adequate time to address your concerns
  • Their method of roof inspection (physically walking it versus viewing with binoculars)
  • Their availability for follow-up questions days, weeks, or months after the inspection
  • Their responsiveness to phone calls and messages
  • The professionalism they demonstrate online and during phone conversations

Over 33 Years of Hands-On Experience

With 33 years spent inspecting houses and other structures—totaling more than 18,000 inspections—I’ve encountered nearly every condition imaginable. My background as a journeyman electrician and hands-on experience as a real estate investor and flipper have given me the knowledge and expertise to identify potential problems that could cost you time, money, and significant frustration.

As your professional home inspector, I approach every property with the same diligence I would apply to my own purchase.

What to Expect from My Home Inspection Services

I encourage you to join me during the inspection. This allows me to walk you through the home and address any questions in real time. Rushing through an inspection is never my approach. I dedicate the time necessary to thoroughly assess the property and provide valuable insights, including maintenance recommendations, fire prevention guidance, and energy efficiency tips.

Providing the most comprehensive inspection possible is a point of pride. I personally climb onto and walk the roof whenever safely accessible—binoculars from ground level simply don’t offer the same thorough assessment. You’ll receive a complete evaluation of all accessible structures and systems, from the roof to the basement or crawl space, including electrical, plumbing, heating/cooling, garage, and outbuildings.

Following the inspection, I’ll review all findings with you before finalizing your report. Your report remains strictly confidential and will not be shared with anyone without your authorization. A clear, easy-to-read report complete with photos will arrive promptly via email.

My Commitment to You

My home inspection services extend well beyond the inspection day. You’re welcome to call with questions days or even months later. I understand that new questions often arise once you’ve settled into your home, and I’ll always be available to help.

All inspections meet or exceed the code of ethics and standards of practice for:

  • (ASHI) American Society of Home Inspectors
  • (NAHI) National Association of Home Inspectors
  • (NCHILB) NC Home Inspector License Board
